LCOS missed it's window of opportunity. HTPS is too expensive. DLP has successfully filled the gap left by LCOS and HTPS and will dominate the RPTV marketplace for years to come. This summary of the status of RPTV technologies is tidy. It is also not true. Although each of these statements were true -- or seemed to be true -- at one time, the actual situation today is more complicated and extremely fluid. So, when your friends and family members ask you as a display expert which RPTV they should buy, what should you say?

Mr. Kenneth I. Werner is Senior Analyst for Insight Media, which provides display intelligence through newsletters, reports, conferences, and consulting services to companies in the information display and related industries, and to companies using, integrating, and selling displays. Mr. Werner began his career as a semiconductor device design engineer for RCA. He holds a B.A. in physics from Rutgers University and an M.S. in solid-state physics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and has taken graduate management courses at the University of Connecticut. He has been an active participant in the display industry since 1987.

Mr. Werner is a founding partner of Chorus Consulting, a government-registered Korean company dedicated to forging mutually productive technology and business relationships among Asian, American, and European display-related companies.
