Flexible LCDs are becoming increasingly interesting for applications were thin design, flexibility and light weight is required. One of the applications that Swedish LCD Center focuses on is flexible LCDs for smart cards. In this presentation a plastic LCD integrated for a smart card and manufactured with inkjet technology is demonstrated. The LCD was successfully subjected to mechanical bending and torsion tests.

Christian Adas was born in Gothenburg, Sweden, in December 15, 1972. He received his M. Sc. Degrees in Materials Physics from the University of Uppsala, Sweden. In 1997 he studied at Monash University in a one year exchange student program between Uppsala University and Australia. From 1998 - 2000 he worked at ACREO a microelectronics institute in Stockholm, Sweden. Focusing on process development and prototype development of pressure sensors in SiC- power electronics. He holds a patent for dopant selective etching of SiC for Micro Electronic Mechanical Systems (MEMS). 2000-2001 he joined Ericsson Microelectronics, were he worked on product quality issues for optoelectronic applications, Stockholm, Sweden. In 2001 he joined Swedish LCD Center, Borlange, Sweden and is working as project manager for the industrial projects especially flexible LCDs and inkjet.
