Biography
Professor Sun received his BEng and MEng degrees both from Tianjin University in 1990 and 1992 respectively. He then studied at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (now ECE) of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology from 1994 to 1998, where he received his PhD degree. He was among the first batch of PhD graduates of ECE. In 1998, he joined the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of Nanyang Technological University as an Assistant Professor. He was promoted to Associate Professor and Full Professor in Electronic Engineering in 2005 and 2011 respectively. In Jan 2013, he joined the South University of Science and Technology as a Chair Professor and the Head of the Department of Micro/Nano Materials and Devices to develop the department.

Professor Sun has been very active in professional activities. He is the founder of the SID Singapore and Malaysia Chapter. He has chaired and/or organized of many international conferences worldwide. He has served as the international reviewer for funding agencies of various countries. He has been He was awarded the Nanyang Award for Research and Innovation in 2009, the 1000 Talent Award by the Chinese Government in 2012, and the Jacques Beaulieu Excellence Research Chair of INRS (Institut national de la recherche scientifique), Quebec, Canada in 2013. He is a Fellow of SPIE, a Fellow of Society for Information Display, and a Fellow of the Institute of Physics (UK). He is also a Senior Member of IEEE and a Member of OSA.

Professor Sun has authored over 350 peer-reviewed journal publications, and delivered numerous invited talks. His H-index is 39.
