Undergraduate Research

The Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) aims to develop a research culture at HKUST at the undergraduate (UG) level. It is designed to give UG students the opportunity to work closely with faculty members and to participate in research, scholarly or creative activities.

All Year-1 and Year-2 HKUST undergraduate students (or extended to Year-3 students enrolled in 4-year programs) with an interest in research are eligible to apply.

Projects are offered either in the Summer or Fall Session. For the Summer Session, projects can be credit-bearing or stipend-bearing. Students may choose to either earn course credit or receive stipend, but not both. Projects offered in the Fall Session must be credit-bearing.
