Faculty position in Electronic and Computer Engineering

The Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology invites applications for tenure-track faculty positions. The department is especially interested in candidates in machine learning, big data systems and sustainable energy systems. However, it prioritizes the novelty, significance, and promise of the candidate’s research over any specific area of specialization.

Applicants should have a PhD with demonstrated strength in research and a commitment to teaching. Successful candidates are expected to lead an active research program and to teach both graduate and undergraduate courses.

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is a world renowned research university in Asia’s most vibrant city, Hong Kong. Its Engineering School, ranked among the world’s top 25 since 2004, offers outstanding opportunities and state-of-the-art facilities for faculty and students to pursue cutting-edge research in diverse disciplines. All formal instruction is given in English.

The Department of ECE has about 40 faculty members, 400 undergraduate students and 300 postgraduate students. It provides an excellent environment for multidisciplinary research, with close links to other departments within engineering and to other schools through joint appointments and active involvement in cross-cutting institutes and centers in the area of robotics, artificial intelligence, big data, and energy. The Department is committed to increasing the gender and international diversity of its faculty and students. Specifically we are seeking outstanding woman candidates at all faculty levels.

Starting salary will depend on qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including medical and dental insurance, annual leave, and housing will be provided where applicable. Initial appointment for junior candidates will normally be on a three-year contract and a gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of the contract. Re-appointment will be subject to mutual agreement.
