The Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering (ECE) currently has 43 faculty members, out of which 23 are IEEE Fellows and 10 are Fellows of other renowned professional organizations (including APS, RSC, OSA, SPIE, SID and National Academy of Engineering USA). Offering academic degrees in BEng, MPhil, MSc, and PhD, to about 400 undergraduate students and 350 postgraduate research students, the Department conducts comprehensive teaching and research programs in both basic and applied aspects of Electronic and Computer Engineering. Research activities are broadly categorized into solid-state electronics and photonics; integrated circuits and systems; biomedical engineering; control and robotic systems; data science and AI; and wireless communications and networking. The Department is well equipped with state-of-the-art research facilities and has been consistently ranked among the top 30 globally by Times Higher Education by subjects in the past many years.
Reporting to the Dean of Engineering, the Head of ECE is expected to provide leadership and manage the Department in its diverse academic and administrative functions.

The Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at all levels, with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Display sciences and technologies
- Nanoelectronics and optoelectronics
- Flexible displays and large-area electronics
- Sensor and display applications
Applicants should have a PhD in ECE or other physical science/engineering disciplines with demonstrated strength in their fields of research and a commitment to teaching in the ECE department. The successful candidate is expected to conduct an innovative research program central to display and optoelectronic technologies and take an active leadership role in the State Key Laboratory of Advanced Display and Optoelectronics in seeking funding from governmental agencies and collaboration with display industries. The SKL on Advanced Displays and Optoelectronics is a government funded laboratory with an annual budget of HKD10M and additional industrial funding in the same order. Currently SKL has 5 active faculty members with a research staff of 15 including visiting scientists. Facilities include a complete microelectronics line and OLED/LCD fabrication equipment, in addition to university-wide shared facilities for nanofabrication and the state-of-the-art equipment for material characterization.
